ABOUT VILLAGE OF CURRIE

The Village of Currie hopes to incorporate and eventually expand to the surrounding areas. Our goal is to complete the final petition steps by the end of 2024.

We incorporate to hope to avoid being over run by industrial growth, and have a say in the future of our rural community. We hold the goal to continue to encourage growth in a thoughtful way, including blocking hazardous sites from being built in our back yards, which will not only put us at risk, but also greatly de value our property values.

We watch what has happened to Wilmington, and currently in Hampstead, where unrestricted growth has destroyed any sense of peaceful rural living. We know that the county has plans for an industrial corridor, one which will bring hazardous materials to our backyards at the corner of 421 and Montague. We ask our neighbors to join hands with us, and attempt to preserve the rural peace of this area that we hold dear to our hearts.

We take pride in our neighbors, as we have a close knit community that values hard work, integrity, and stewardship of the land. Our story begins here, with a vision to create a place where families can continue to enjoy the beauty of nature, and peace of rural living. We hope to uphold this vision by incorporating into our own Village, to have more control and power over what is built in our own backyards.

Initial boundaries of the Village of Currie will be 421 to the east, Blueberry road to the west, with 210 as northern, and north western boundary.

These are just starting boundaries, and we hope to add additional area once established

SUSTAINABLE RURAL LIVING & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

By incorporating as a town, it will allow us to

Development of zoning rules to limit what can be done when agricultural land is move to residential or "mixed use."
Ensure that we are limiting exposure to hazardous materials
Continue DOT, police, fire contracts as they currently are
Provide weekly curbside pick up trash by the end of 2025
Creation of a community volunteer base to assist in emergencies such as natural disasters
Be the stewards and guidance of what happens in our own back yards
